Year R enjoying the story The Walls Fall Down, read by Yvonne, our Open the Book leader.

5th November saw the town come alight to celebrate Diwali. Children in Year 2 were invited to take part in the parade and perform a dance they had been learning in school. They looked amazing and did a fantastic job. Well done Year 2.

During October children learnt about Black History through class work and during assemblies. Famous people included Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and Kamala Harris.

On 22nd October we wore red to raise awareness of the campaign 'Show Racism the Red Card'. Children discussed this within their class and donated £1 to the campaign.

Year 2 have worked with Kala Arts, a South Asian dance company to learn a Diwali dance. The children have the chance to join the company for a performance in Basingstoke on 5th November.

KS1 shared the amazing success of Emma Raducanu winning the US Open. We focused on spirituality and the awe and wonder we felt when hearing about her. 

Year 2 have talked about democracy; the right to an opinion and voice and making decisions together. They voted on the class story they wanted in their class.

Open the Book visited us to introduce the Bible and how important it is for Christians. Yvonne and Peggy discussed the importance of how we might have different viewpoints about the Bible.

Year R worked with St Thomas Care Home to plant the seedlings from the seeds they had planted for us. We planted these in our garden area. It was an opportunity for us to focus on social skills and understand how communities function.

British values and World Book Day - we made links to British values whilst studying fantastically great women who changed the world.
